How do I revert wordpress to the original theme?

January 22nd, 2013 No comments

My wife was playing with her site http://nrotxn.com when she installed a theme that required wordpress 3.5 which she hadn’t installed yet. It caused her site to go dead. Fixing it was easy, just run this query to change two rows in the options table back to a theme you do have installed:

UPDATE  `wp_options` SET  `option_value` =  'twentyten' WHERE  `wp_options`.`option_name` = 'template';
UPDATE  `wp_options` SET  `option_value` =  'twentyten' WHERE  `wp_options`.`option_name` = 'stylesheet';

A Good custom permalink string for WordPress

I really dislike the default wordpress permalink choices. My favorite, is to put this in the custom permalink string: “/%category%/%postname%/”

Update a wordpress site to a new domain…

August 18th, 2011 No comments

I like to do all my work locally, and so I frequently copy a remote site to my local computer, but I also like to NOT mess with my hosts file so that I can always look at the live site, and you never get into one of those “Is this the live site?” situations. Unfortunately wordpress uses serialized php arrays to store much of it’s data.  And those serialized arrays cannot simply be search and replaced.  (Because php has a basic string length checksum built into the serialize unserialize methods), so you need to use this too: http://interconnectit.com/124/search-and-replace-for-wordpress-databases/
